Heath Pope grew up in Santa Rosa, California, moving to San Francisco to become a Design Engineer with Sherwood Design Engineers. He recently toured Southeast Asia to experience one of the most inspiring and rapidly developing parts of the world.
What do you see in Southeast Asia’s future?
I see that the region has many emerging ideas with respect to technologies and production. Signs of growth potential are abundant.
What was the most striking thing about your trip?
The spirit of the people. The people were always smiling and happy to see you. I didn’t quite know what to expect, but I think that in this region, and especially Cambodia, people are hospitable and super friendly. But watch out for the deep fried tarantula!
What has been the main shift in your attitude?
Erase expectations before leaving your homeland. Traveling is nothing like you would ever picture it, and it is often all together different. A suggestion is to completely soak in everything. Don’t try to teach or preach, but instead, listen and learn.
