Israel has announced a few plans over the last week to make the country more sustainable, which isn’t surprising given the country’s lack of natural resources. The first was a proposal from the Israeli government to provide financial incentives for green building, as well as raise awareness for green building in the country. There are also plans to build a 250-MW solar power plant, which would be the first in the country, even though Israeli companies have been building similar plants elsewhere. On the master planning level, Israel’s three largest cities – Haifa, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv – have all developed large-scale programs to expand public transportation in the cities, since all are severely lacking in that department. There are plans to develop inter-city railway lines as well that will connect to the new public transportation systems. Given that the country is quite small, this has potential to become very popular as a means of travelling between cities.
